Puerto San Francisquito

Four hours of challenging dirt road south of Bahia Los Angeles sits remote Puerto San Franciscito. There are only two other people in the area today. It’s the first time the air is warm enough to think about getting in the water. I was planning to take a swim until I noticed the white sandy bottom is littered with

Puerto San Francisquito camp

Very remote, unique, beautiful bay that holds a hidden danger on it's sandy bottom. My first thought is to go swimming until I notice the many, many stingrays! The temperature is perfect, a light breeze as the sun is setting, warm colorful desert and a remarkably blue Sea of

Bahia de los Angeles, I'm outta here

Bahia de los Angeles is dramatic, bone dry craggy mountains contrast the deep blue Sea of Cortez. I'm up early ready for three hours of remote dirt road through 15 ft. cactus and talcum powder sections of road. Apparently the Baja 1000 ran through here and I'm very fortunate the road has been graded again. The weather isn't cooperating - very high winds keep the drone grounded most of the

Bahia de los Angeles to puerto San Francisquito

A few very challenging sections of road almost got me. It may look at times like I'm riding very fast - thats the beauty of action cameras, they make it look very exciting. The truth is often 20-30 mph is all the faster I can go when it's so rough and soft. Some stretches might see 50 mph. High winds kept the drone down most of the way. This ride is a good test of confidence ending with a beautiful and unusual bay, puerto San Francisquito. More video of the bay to

Best fish taco at the best possible time

Each ride ends with a hotel & wifi search and something to eat. Just up the street from Hotel las Hamacas, bahia de los Angeles is Mama's Place,  is that right (probably not)? She's feeding her family as I walk towards town and the smell is fresh and smokey from her sidewalk kitchen. I'm ordering fish tacos and she's rolling them in fresh batter and dropping them into a large cast iron pan. Hands down the best fish tacos I've

San Felipé to Bahía de los Ángeles

These routes are preloaded into my iPhone-as-GPS device using Galileo Pro. They look nothing like this, but the blinking blue dot of my position is always comforting. The orange section on the map is graded dirt

Stormy ride: San Felipé to Bahía de los Ángeles

The wind really picked up in the night and rain is expected further south on this leg of the trip. The long section of dirt road, apparently, has a couple ways to go. Beautiful bays and views mixed with wicked crosswinds make this very challenging at

San Felipe - This is very serious

Here's the camping setup at KiKi's RV Camping & Hotel and, apparently, I'm feeling kinda stressed about flying out the back of a 4 foot space over the ocean. Really, I'm enjoying this more than it

San Felipe

Stressful ride starting from Mike's Sky Ranch with fumes in the tank (not quite). The closest town for fuel is a different and nearly unmarked road, more to the west. GPS is providing a comforting overview the whole way. Really fun, rugged and winding road, about 25 miles of it. A shame the camera was not working. Fueling up and heading east to San Felipe so I can catch up on posting and work. At the North end of town in an area I've never been before. KiKi's RV Camping &

Rancho Mike (Mike's Sky Ranch)

Crossing at Tecate and heading North East on 2D takes you over the Sierras onto the Sonoran Plain - it is spectacular. Cartoon-like boulders the size of houses spread evenly over deep ravines which eventually opens to the plain below and a veiw south towards San Felipe. Making good time so I'm turning inland and back into the mountains to Campo Mike. As luck would have it, there's a friendly group of riders there from New Jersey. Great guys and got some tips from the guides for destinations
