Explore Isla Espirito Santo

Plans had originally been to move on, but a text from family friends, the Links, camping at Playa El Teclolote, sent me back out for a few days at their beachside spot . Jim is an enthusiastic, explorer, adventurer. The weather on the second day, less windy and the water less choppy, made it possible to take his boat for a trip around the island Espirito Santo. Beautiful beaches and ocean water, great

To Mazatlan, catch a Baja Ferry to La Paz

A short five hour ride from Chacala to Mazatlan and I'm early to catch an overnight ferry. Nice having time for a bite to eat before waiting in line to get my actual ticket and waiting again for final loading of the motorcycle . Once onboard, nothing to do but grab the included dinner, read and relax in my cabin. We'll be arriving early Monday morning in La

Mysterious El Tamarindo

The defunct resort two miles from the shores of la Manzanilla, El Tamarindo, is a mystery. Ask anyone in town and you’ll get different story’s about the place. There appears to be no online information about the cliff-side casas. From what I'm able to piece together, poor construction and, possibly, a casita falling from the cliffs condemned the place. The casitas have never been occupied and are now slowly decaying in the ocean air. Other parts of the resort are currently being developed by Four Seasons including an existing golf course. It's a five year project that's destroying the tranquility of small town la Manzanilla. Huge trucks and heavy construction equipment rumble down the main streets 5-6 days a

Welcome to the jungle, Casita Bambu

After Ann's departure Sunday I can't afford the same place we had on the beach (which was really amazing - thanks Ann!). A visit to the local real estate rental office and I lucked out with Casita Bambu, back in "the hood" as it were. It's a bit of a walk to the beach, but nights are cooler here and that's

Our last outing together, Tenacatita

On Ann's last full day here, we're riding the motorcycle out to Tenacatita, know for it's snorkeling and a dishonest land grab back in 2010 that destroyed all the beach front homes and businesses. They still haven't recovered and the locals are still fighting it. The snorkeling is fun, but Ann enjoys swimming much more. We're getting tips on one more thing to do before heading back to la Manzanilla. There’s a uniquely remote restaurant up the beach, la Mosca, the

La Manzanilla, oh yeah

A short afternoon ride north over the hills from our last stop in Barra de Navidad, puts us in La Manzanilla. Five km of unspoiled beach, palm trees, sun, delicious food, stingrays, crocodiles, jellyfish, and a laid back vibe make this place wild and
